Anothony L Korbar, II, DMD
Endodontist
Dr. Korbar grew up the youngest of five children in Beaver Falls, PA, outside of Pittsburgh. With so many professional athletes from western Pennsylvania including Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Mike Ditka, and Tony Dorsett to name a few, sports were ingrained at an early age. After playing many different sports in high school, Dr. Korbar chose to play baseball in college.
He attended Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. He was a four-year letterman in varsity baseball while earning captain’s honors his junior and senior year. He also won the Fr. Rupprect award for most outstanding scholar athlete of Saint Vincent College his senior year. He graduated with honors with his BS in Biology in 1994. He went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and obtained his DMD in 1998.
During dental school, Dr. Korbar earned a United States Air Force scholarship and was commissioned as a Captain to begin his professional career. He served as a general dentist in the Air Force from 1998 to 2002, completing an Advanced General Dentistry Residency at Offutt Air Force Base, NE, in 1999. From there, he was assigned to Luke Air Force Base, AZ, where he began to develop a special interest in endodontics.
One of his proudest accomplishments while at Luke AFB was the opportunity to represent the United States on a humanitarian mission to El Salvador. He was the acting oral surgeon and treated over 300 patients in ten days.
Also during his tenure at Luke AFB, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, occurred. Within a few months he was sent for training on an EMEDS (Expeditionary Medical Support) team to be deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, his Air Force commission ended before he could begin his tour in Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2002, Dr. Korbar was accepted into the Endodontic Residency program at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. He completed his endodontics training and joined Carmel Valley Endodontics in 2004.
Furthermore, while working at Carmel Valley Endodontics, he has also been volunteering his time as a contracted endodontist at the VA Medical Center in Oahu, HI helping the veterans since 2006.
Dr. Korbar’s personal interests include fishing, golf, and almost every other sports activity, reading psychological thriller novels, and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh teams … although those San Diego sports teams are making their impression.
Dr. Korbar and his two daughters, Mikaela and Kendall, enjoy living in a beach community in North County.
